Technical Bulletin TRM/95Viking™S2 plates stored under high humidity conditions can develop a form of flaking resulting in poor press life. This problem can be intensified when plates are stacked on top of each other for storage while they are still wet. Here are some suggestions to help prevent flaking on Viking™S2 plates: * After machine or hand development, be sure to buff the plates dry before storage. * If plates are to be stored in a stacked position, make sure they are dry and slipsheeted. * Make sure the driers on the processor are working correctly. * Make sure that processor gum is changed frequently to reduce contamination and excessive concentration. Highly concentrated gum can prevent the plate from drying. * Store plates in a hanging position. * Reduce storage time after processing to a minimum. * Make sure that plates processed with Viking™ 2-in-1 developer gum are rinsed and regummed with Viking™ gum. This will provide the plates with better protection until they go to press.
